Extrusion Engineer

- PURPOSE OF POSITION: Optimizing operations through leading, motivating and supporting associates within the assigned area. This is a hands-on position which will require the lead to also run machinery within the department.
- ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Observing and monitoring the optimal deployment of labor, material, and time to meet production schedules.
- Observes and assists employees through ongoing coaching and feedback methods.
- Monitor production related metrics to ensure optimal performance from assigned associates.
- Perform secondary operations as needed (this is a hands-on position).
- Report any barriers that may jeopardize Safety, Quality and/or Production.
- Always exhibits good housekeeping following the 5 S Standards.
- Understands IQMS material scans and inventory transactions.
- Be proficient in all aspects of equipment for extrusion and all related secondary equipment – i.e., mills, cut-to-length equipment, and post cure ovens.
- Establish the production process using saved process parameters and the standard listed on the travelers.
- Run samples and obtain 1st piece approval for job start-up.
- Work with Engineering on new job start-up to establish correct die size and process parameters.
- Run production, monitor, and maintain rate and quality throughout the tun.
- Understand and use work orders, blueprints, engineering specifications, SOPs as required to perform set-ups and correct problems following GDP.
- Understand and operator all equipment controls and operator interfaces.
- Maintain accurate written records and use the IQMS system as required for documentation.
- Be able to flex between molding and assembly operations.
- Communicate well with supervisors, engineers, maintenance technicians and quality assurance personnel, as well as extrusion personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- PREFERRED SKILLS
- Language Skills
- Ability to communicate in English in written and verbal form.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.
- Ability to interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense, understand to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Computer Skills
- Ability to clock in and out of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for job tracking.
- Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
- Prolonged periods sitting at table or standing at a workstation.
- Must be able to lift to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- The employee must be able to walk steps between the floors in the building regularly.

- Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Employee will come in frequent contact with various types of machine oils, lubricants, silicone, and latex.
- Safety
- All employees will be provided training on working safely, evacuation procedures, accident reporting and other safety topics the company feels are necessary to ensure and maintain a safe work environment from hazards to the employee.
- An employee who does not feel safe or recognizes an unsafe practice, should report it immediately to their supervisor as a recognized responsibility of the position.
